Best standalone bookshelf speakers up to £600?

So, which are the best standalone bookshelf speakers up to £600? That means only 2 speakers, no subwoofer and no other system matches. Only 2 speakers that can manage to do the job by themselves!

Possible candidates by me: KEF q300, B&W dm685, Monitor Audio rx1, Tannoy Revolution dc6

What size room?

If its not massive, then IME and IMO the ATC SCM7 is the best I have heard in that price range, cracking little speakers unless you need to plumb the depths for blue whale love song music or church organ music :rofl:

Well, let say for a room that are about 30 square meters.

Ok, haven't looked into those, but going to.

OK, that may be a little large for them being roughly 16ft x 20ft (off the top of my head) without a subwoofer.
You never know though, I used them in a living room/kitchen that was roughly similar floor space but long and thin and thought they did really well, but then I am not a bass head.

That's quite a broad question.

Your room-size is quite reasonable and the speaker choice is huge so perhaps a little bit more information might be helpful.

You say 'bookshelf' speakers, do you intend to use them on stands?

You do not state what other equipment you are going to be using them with or what your main source is going to be.

Get this sorted first and then the 'best bookshelf speakers' should be selected from a list of manufacturers that you can actually get to audition rather than those plucked from an arbitary list and purchased online. 🙂

Definitely the Kef R100 at that price point. Haggle a bit and get them for £480-£500 new

Would agree if you can get them at that price but otherwise Q300s would be good (but they are not really bookshelf size...not unless you have LARGE shelves... 😉 ) but some prefer the Q100s due to, apparent, better mid range, etc. (though I am not convinced) and the Q100s are more bookshelf sized although still quite deep.

Whatever you decide make sure you liste with something approximating to your system set up.

With a large room like that I would be looking at larger drivers/powerful bookshelf speakers.

Dynaudio DM 2/7, Dali Ikon 2 k2 (seen for £630ish), Klipsch RB81 mk2, Monitor Audio RX2, Focal 806v

This are amanzing speakers for its size !

Some time i wonder how is that possible! It's all i've to say about this gems!

I use to have Monitor Audios B4, that have full and power bass and i dont miss them at all!

Cool, that sounds good. How much better do you think the Exite 12s are to the Dm 2/7? The specs on paper look similar. The Exite 12 are just out of budget, new, for the OP.

Thats why in first post i've advesed the used Excites X12.

The Excite range is complitly different from the DM range, different voice coils, different drivers.

Nothing like a demo and ear the differences for your self!

I'd second the Kef R100. Sounded great on my old kit and sublime on the end of my new stuff!
