Just ordered a pair of MS Mezzo 6's which speaker cable would give best results with these speakers....

Using an Audiolab 8000A amp and Arcam CD72

Looking at Atlas Hyper 2.0 or Chord Rumour 2 or Nordost 2, all roughly same pricing......want something to stir up the Arcam performance which can be laid back as you all know.....

Any other suggestions welcome.....

First of all, I made the upgrade from QED micro wire to Chord Carnival and I can honestly say it has improved things but it is not going to alter the sonic characteristics of your existing system. So on that note, I think the above speaker cable I would recommend as it does give you a bit more bottom end and makes the frequencies in the mid range a bit clearer and wider but...don't expect an overhaul.

Hi!

I am looking for speaker cables to match my Mezzo 8 as well. Currently what I have in mind is the QED Genesis Silver Spiral which has many good comment. But there is one comment that worry me. this cable may make some system sound bright where I can't really stand bright sound. it will make me headache. This cable should give good detail and tighter bass.

Another cable in mind is QED Revelation which is between the Silver Spiral and Silver Anniversary XT. I own the XT and will try it when my Mezzo 8 run in.

I'd recommend 'Van Damme' Studio grade cable. I bought it a couple of months back, hoping to calm my systems tendency to get bright. It worked. Tamed the treble, increased the bass without losing detail.

The best thing is that it's only £4.60 a metre.

Before I bought the Van Damme, I was about to get Van Den Hul CS122 cable which goes for £15. The Van Damme is just as good, and saved me £100. Nice.

Hi there....

Hmm another speaker cable thread...

I can honestly say that in all my years of setting up budget/mid/hi end sound equipment etc. I have never heard a speaker cable make a clear auidable difference to any system whats so ever.

So my advice with cable, Oxygen free copper, 12 AWD and as short a length as you can get away with....and your done. That should be more than enough for any budget / Mid system. Spending money on fancy cable is pointless unless your system is made up of the very best Hi Fi....and even then....Meh.....

Your money is far better spent on what you bought the system for in the first place......music : ) hahaha....deep man......

78finn:ooops, sorry just noticed a typo...I meant: 12 AWG.....

What is 12 AWG in English or mm.

I am also in the Cable Quandary, I have to buy More cable due to a system layout change and am going for 2 runs per speaker as I am Bi-Amplifying so need around 14M of cable total For My stereo Pair, but did not want to spend much more that £100 if possible.

System

CD6000Ki Sig CD Player.

SR5300 AV Amp Changing to SR6003 Shortly (Source Direct Driving Tweeters.

Pair of Marantz MA6100 Mono Block Amps Driving Woofers.

B&W 805s at the end of it all.

AWG stands for American Wire Gauge....and as far as I know there isn't a metric version. The lower the AWG...the thick/higher strand the cable. So 12AWG will be made up of more copper than 16AWG....

Pwiles 1968: Well if you are going to Bi-Wire....I would go for what I mention.....should be able to get what you need for under 100. However why not save yourself and not Bi-Wire..run one length of cable.

Bi-Wiring....is also very hit and miss when it comes to an audiable difference to the sound. I recently Bi-Wired up my Wharfedale 9.2's to see if there was any 'improoved' sound difference. Have to say....I really couldn't it. I think most people Bi-Wire because its sounds/looks like a cool thing to say/have. I got my girlfriend to listen to my system with both setups.....she thought I was mental.....no difference. I think we things like this, poeple often convince themsleves that there is a difference.

I reckon the only real difference is in the price tag. Bi-Wire cable to SOOO expensive to buy....and running two standard lengths of cable looks average. But its all in the eye of the beholder...or in this case the ear.....haha...errrr.....

I guess your system is a lot higher spec than mine though...so you may hear a difference...but whether its any 'better'..well I would be interested to hear what you reckon...or what your partner reckons.....

But yeah.....I still reckon some good old off the shelf, no **** branding.......standard 12AWG, oxygen free, copper speaker cable is the ticket......

You raise some very good points, especially about cable length. Here is what Bryston have to say on the topic.

Looked it up which I should have done in the first place, 12AWG relates to 3.3mm Square.

I am Bi-Amplifying so by default need bi-wire or 2 runs, I have ordered some Van Damme Tour Grade Bi Wire 4x4mm it was cheap at £4M.

My Wife is partially deaf and wears hearing Aids she can not hear the difference I can, but I am positive she has been tapping her toes to music much more since I picked up the 805s
