I am looking to get a new 42” screen (Lcd/Plasma) as I want one of the best screens on the market. My seating view point is just 3mts. So it maybe possible to go upto 46” but I am not really wanting to drop under 42” so the new Award winning Sony may not be for me!

So as I have and do love the Pioneer but as I have just found out (Thanks Clare Newsome) that no 42” screen until summer 09 I will have to move to other companies.

The Sony KDL-40W4500 is looking great but I still feel plasma is the better screen type. Plus its only 40” and I don’t really want to go down in size. And I don’t know if the KDL-46W4500 will work within the seating range.

So that takes me back for now to the Panasonic models which I would like to know the following?

How much better on picture is the Pioneer over the Sony? Sound doesn’t matter as I will have a new A/V set up too.

And how much better is the Sony over the best Panasonic?

So if Pioneer had a42” out would it be the Awards 08 or as its expensive would the Sony still be the winner?

Is the Sony the best picture in (40-42”) and in the Sony the best picture under 46” on the market today?

I too am debating getting a new TV and thought I had my heart set on Sony KDL40W4500. Then I saw this set next to a Panasonic TH42PZ85B. Boy oh boy, thought the picture was fantastic on the Sony when it was up against other LCD's, put it next to this plasma and it looked (in my opinion) washed out. Panny much better picture overall.

All that I could suggest is looking at the wo sets side by side with the same feed. Ask to see them both on SD and HD. Take along a couple of YOUR blu rays and ask them to play into both through one of their players.

Good luck, personally I am ordering my Panny tomorrow. Pairing with Yamaha DSP AX863SE and not sure either KEF 2005.3 or Tannoy arena lite. Do you have any views??

Hi thanks for that and the plasma over the Lcd is the way i am thinking. and i love my Panasoinc so i am thinking what you have said too.

As for the Kef 2005.3 I must say i love the 2005.1's I have and the sound is great. And like you i am looking at the Yamaha amp but am thinking of using the Kef 3005se as they sound and feel bigger which is what i wnat.

But saying that with only just over a 12sqmt room the 2005.1 have filled it and myself and friends find the sound/set up mind blowing. I will have £4-£5k for a new full Blu-ray set up in the next few months.

I may think of using the 2005.3 if i feel the room is to small for the 3005se speakers. but as i need to really blow my old system out of the water im looking to get the best i can.

let me know how it goes and if i can help in anyway

The Panasonic TH-42PZ800 offers the best 42" picture to my eyes. It is well built like the Pioneers and really does deliver an amazing picture on SD as well as DVD, HD and bluray. As always the best thing to do is book a demonstration with your dealer and see for yourself.

do you not mean the th 42pz80 ?

PLEASE HELP. I need some advice, after months and months of reading forums and research I had my mind set on the 40w4500 mainly because I have read that lcd is the way to go for gaming (xbox 360) and also because lcd more energy efficient.

after reading about the backlight bleeding and clouding on the w4500 I am back at the beginning. rubbish!

can anyone answer these questions.

how does the panasonic plasma range handle gaming? do you suffer from screen burn in?

what problems are common with plasma tv's?

which panasonic is the best , pz80, pz81, pz85 ?

Dont tihnk he does the Z80 and the Z800 are two completely different beasts.

The Z800 is the flagship Panasonic model with Intelligent Frame Creation (IFC), digital cinema colour 24p real cinema, single sheet glass design and four HDMI

Whereas the Z80 is a budget version by comparison. However still a good tv

No I dont work for Panasonic just spent what seems like ages researching the things for my next purchase which is the PZ85B, in between the other two!!

Well I have seen the Panasonic TH42PZ85 and I have placed 3 Panasonic TH42PX80 screens in. And I must say other than Pioneer's super and costly plasma's the Panasonic TH42PZ85 is the best in my view. I can't say that the PZ800 is any better (picture) than the PZ85.

I am waiting to view the Sony 4500 model and any of these screens will give your gaming a new life. Even on my old PX60 makes all my games consoles shine.

Did not see the point in paying for something I was not going to use, basically. Have V+. Also PZ81 has BBE (bass boost enhance) as one of its extra selling points, again I will not use.

Also now toying with the idea of the PZ800 as I have just googled it and its only a bit more expensive than the Z85. So confused (horrible when you are about to part with cash).

Wish I could see into the future and look at the January sale prices

As I said earlier I was going to purchase a W4500 until I SAW it next to a plasma the PZ85B. For gaming plasma is excellent as no input lag. Screen burn in does not really cause too many difficulties nowadays unless you leave a static image on your screen for about a week. Lifespan is now incredible on Panansonic Plasmas 60 - 100,000 hours!!!!! Down side of Plasma is heat generated and power used.

10 hours a day all year 3650hours = 15-25 years!!!

It won`t be cheap (somewhere around the £2,000 mark) but have you heard of the new Phillips 42" LCD? Model number is 42PFL9803 and it recently won an EIFA award.

How can anybody answer a question like that? " If Pioneer had a 42 out would it be the awards 08"

If, if, if......

If I was a girl, would I be pretty? Who knows.

What I can say is that, IF I had the choice between the current Sony 40" LCD and the old model Pioneer, I would go for the Pioneer everytime.

There is nothing wrong with plasmas. Picture quality better, no more burn in issues, long half life. LCD takes a bit less power and is much better at high altitude but unless you are running your tv +6500 feet off a car battery (there is a hint of sarcasm there) then it really is a case of which picture you like best.
