I used to have a pair of Sennheiser HD565s. Really loved them. They opened up the sound so beautifully but eventually they stopped working properly. Cable connections into each ear piece started to breakdown. Shame, but I had had them for a number of years so hey ho. The reason I bought them in the first place was because of a trip to a French supermarket about 15 years ago. I know, this is a bit weird. The supermarket had a large CD section and you could listen on headphones dangling from the display. Sennheiser HD250s. Closed back design and the most amazing sound I'd ever heard. Don't ask about the economics of putting them in a supermarket. The French clearly work to different cost profiles! Ok, so that was how I got started. Now I need to find something to bring back those days of rich, lustrous sound through my iPod and iPhone. I rip most of my music to AAC at 256kbs. I know they'll be yelps and howls from the audiophiles, but I find it sounds great. Really I do. And I don't have room on the old iPhone for a higher bit-rate. The best in ear phones I have are Sennheiser CX300 and they're great. Not the best you can get but they've done the job in a conveniently small package. Now it's time to get some big cans. Budget is between £100 and £150 and I want a rich open and wonderfully breathtaking sound. Ideally a design that doesn't leak sound too badly so if I want to use them on the tube and look a bit silly, I can without everyone else hearing the embarrassing choice of tunes I like. How embarrassing? Well, lets just say the following are my kind of taste: Razorlight, U2 (alot), Mark Ronson, James Blunt, The Fray, Take That (I have no shame). Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks headphone fans! Will

Ok, so it looks like these are recommended online, though I've never heard of them. Has anyone else? Ultrasone.

www.ultrasone.com probably the Ultrasone HFI 780, though I couldn't see a price online.

Next up, Sennheiser HD 265. Closed back so not too much leakage I'm hoping.

And of course Grado, as everyone online seems to mention them. Except they only have open backed designs so not very tube friendly and probably not very good at keeping other sounds out.

So how about some of these? Or others I don't know about?

Will nothing to do with your cans but have you had any problems with your Samsung? I noticed on mine that the righthand third of screen when watching dark sceens of a movie was slightly lighter/brighter than the rest of the screen, giving almost a LCD back light appearance to this section of the TV. Got Samsung to come and inspect it and the result is that the actual screen has a terminal fault, so its a nice new TV on its way to MR KRIME (I am going to upgrade to the FULL HD model as it's only £100 more) I also noticed that the anoying moiring effect had worsened and the screen was retaining a image of say a dvd menu for upto 5 mins even if you had only had the menu up for a matter of seconds. Have you spotted any problems with yours?? Oh and sorry for this being in one long paragraph but the good old settings on here are stuck on plain text!!!!

Hahah, yup, I've been on plain text for the last few months! But you can stick a "p" between a "less than" and a "more than" symbol and get paragraphs manually that way. They're the symbols above the , and . keys.

Ok, my screen's been great but I did notice last week that there was a screen burn of a dvd menu screen that had only been up for a few minutes. Quite surprised me. It went away and to be honest I've not had any trouble with it and still love it very much. I don't think it's likely to break down before the 12 months is up and I won't mind keeping it as long as it doesn't develop any issues. I'd be upset if it did as it's basically a lovely screen with a lovely image and a wonderful Freeview picture.

Good luck with your new screen. Full HD hey! Lucky you :)

Well it looks like I've found a couple of options online. So here goes:

Sennheiser HD-280pro

AKG K 271

These sound like they're the closed back design headphones of choice for use without a specialist headphone amp. My goodness it gets complex when you look at headphones with a higher impedence that require an amplifier to work well. Expensive an no doubt fantastic, but not necessarily any good with an iPod!

So, which would you all recommend, or would you go for an Ultrasone HFI780?
