I am luck enough to be able to buy my first AV system based upon many recommendations from What Hifi.

The system comprises:

Denon AVR 4308

Pioneer PDP 428XD

Monitor Audio RS6AV

Pioneer BDP LX70A Blue Ray Player

Pioneer LX70D DVD Recorder

Sky HD

My quesion is what is the best way to connect the system and can somebody recommend brands etc.

I don't want to have the amp on all the time just to watch TV but would obviously like to make the most of HD video and audio.

Help appreciated

HDMI from plasma to Denon. HDMI from plasma to Sky HD. Digital optical from Sky to Denon. This will give you sound and vision from plasma (if it has internal audio) and digital sound from receiver when needed with Sky. HDMI from Bluray to Denon (sound and vision when watching Bluray). HDMI from Pioneer recorder to Denon and coaxial (for sound). I don't know what connection you could use from the recorder to Sky HD but, I'm sure someone will. Then it's just your speaker cables to receiver and subwoofer cable to receiver. Your set up will sound amazing - I have similar but with a weaker receiver and no Bluray - the sub is amazing. Enjoy.

As far as I can see, RGB scart from recorder to Sky HD, to record what you are allowed. As for brands, I would go for QED hdmi SR or Chord Silver hdmi. You will get loads moaning that it's not worth it but with your equipment it is. For speaker cables, I use Chord Odyssey 4 (the 2 is brilliant also) for my fronts and budget thin stuff for my rears. If I was you, I would look at QED and Chord for the cables and you won't go far wrong.
