Hi all,

As a newbie to the world of HIFI and Forums I thought I would jump right in by asking for some advice. I have a Pioneer LX 81 and have recently purchased a small PC for managing my downloaded music. I have the option of connecting the PC straight to the amp via HDMI or optical; or I could purchase a separate DAC and connect via USB or Optical.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can connect using hdmi for visual as well as audio (for films and seeing your pc on your big screen). You can connect using optical, USB for audio which would use the internal DAC from your receiver. Or you could connect using the above to an external DAC and then analogue cables to the receiver for a better sound from your music files.

Hi - Thanks for the quick response. Having just found a spare chord optichord and already having a spare van den hul flat HDMI I will try using the receiver's own internal dac Vs the hdmi for sound quality. I don't necessarily need hdmi for visual as I have a separate denon 2500 transport and a clapped out pioneer laser disc for movies, so sound quality is my priority.

It's handy to have a visual link from your pc so that you can view music files for instance.
