Hi guys, my friend is purchasing the MT30 set for Xmas, only due to the stunning sub (I dont blame him either).

What is the best amplifier to get the best from these speakers, Yamaha/Denon/Onkyo/Pioneer?

A realistic amplifier should cost between £300-£600 I assume for this speaker set? Not sure

Thx

Hi Vinny7

Yamaha AV amps will work well with the MT30's. If £600 (at RRP) is the limit than the RX-V765 will do the trick. However ideally if the budget can be stretched than i would suggest that the RX-V1065 or the truly excellent RX-V2065 (which has taken over from the already superb RX-V1900).

Btw, i had the latest Star Trek (Blu ray) earlier on playing through the BD-S1900, DSP-Z11 and the PL300 package and the performance was absolutely stunning.

I recently heard that your speakers are only as good as the amp driving them, can't think where know but I already know that anyway, I would say you would need a pioneer amp costing well alot more than £600 so I would recommend a yamaha amp costing £1,000 or £9,000 as the way to go.

Rick - thx for your advice as always. I cannot wait at some point next year to come down and demo that amplifier.

Thx for the advice on suitable amplifiers for the MT30.

Thx for your advice gel as well. I shall advise my friend to certainly demo some amplifiers for the setup then. The Denon 4308 and Yamaha Amps will be demoed. I think an amp over £1000 is certainly overkill for this type of system(I assume the £9000 is a typing error :) ). What Hifi recommend the Denon 2310, and a few people I have spoke to have recommended certain Yamaha amps within the price range.

I've been watching the latest Star Trek Blu ray again (it's playing now as i write this) through the BD-S1900, DSP-Z11 and PL300 package. It's scary! The DSP-Z11's power and its ability to recreate a precise soundfield (DSP) is incredible. I think i need a decompression chamber to recover from the onslaught that i've received within the last 24 hours!
