lordmortlock:Anyone know what it sounds like? I'm tempted to give the passive a go with my 909.

Well M'lord...its always worth giving passives a go.......the problem you have is deciding if you want a straight forwatd volume control type (read reasonably inexpensive) or a transformer based type ( not quite so). Its all about budget.....forget the aesthetics. Not sure what type the NVA is but the cheaper ones in his range are not transformer based.

EDIT....The NVA TCS Passive Pre is resistor based (not transformer) as well..........

Nice one thanks Ray. I think I need to try a passive - intrigued to know how different it will sound to my pre/cdp.

Just noticed you have a Beresford.....why dont you set that up as a pre and try that first.........OK, its not passive but should sound different than the quad.

I had a bit of a play around but it didn't seem to make much difference - need to spend a bit longer with it I think. Just spotted your speakers! Awesome!

Hevent got them yet....due tomorrow.........then I have for make space for them.....

If you are allowed speakers then the gloss black CM7s from bowers. Best looking speakers under and over a grand imo!

OK it's not an amp, but worryingly I do find this quite sexy
