Provided you don't want fake surround, any decent stereo amp with preouts used with a good pair of speakers and a sub.

I have a MF X-150 which has preouts. What would they connect to in order to drive the sub?

They'd connect to the line/low-level inputs on an active subwoofer.

What`s your budget?

I have looked at the Denon S302 and the Arcam Solo. Both are very good but outside of my budget.

The Arcam is about £1500 plus the sub and speakers (£2000 gets you the Arcam and Muso speaker package). The Denon is about £1000 including speakers and sub but the stands for the speakers are about £200!
