Beresford DAC TC-7520

HI,

At the moment i use my laptop to play music through my hifi via the headphone socket. I don't think the soundcard in my laptop is too great so would a DAC, in particular the beresford, improve the sound considerably? Also, i have a record player but my amp doesn't have a phono input so the sound is quiet when i plug it in. Can the beresford act as a pre-amp for the record player?

Apart from laptop soundcards being usually pretty poor, a computer is a noisy enviroment (electronically speaking) So keeping the signal in the digital domain in the PC, and doing the conversion offboard will be an improvement.
