Could you just check if you can access BBC iPlayer on your S370 (or 570) ? Thanks

I am getting.. "The service can not be accessed at this time because the server replied with incorrect or invalid information"

It was working fine last night. I have latest firmware. Connection (ethernet) is fine and Youtube/Lovefilm/C5 etc. services are all accessible on my S370. .

I can get BBC iPlayer on the PC (via the same internet connection and router the S370 is connected to.)

So I am guessing it is a BBC sourced problem. (I hope so.)

Chebby,

I am getting the same message this morning for some reason. Was fine last night - could be just a network issue or something.

Demand Five, Love Film etc are all fine.

Thanks Ron.

That is re-assuring to know.

Someone else's problem to fix. Not mine

Ravey Gravey Davy:Try the iplayer messageboard as well if you haven't already

Thanks. I have posted the problem there.

Hopefully if any others - apart from Ron and I - are getting the same problem they can post it on the BBC messageboard too.

Maybe it is not just S370 specific. It would be interesting to know if PS3 users are getting this too.

An update.

There are now 4 replies to my post on the BBC iPlayer Message board. All from Sony BDP-S370 owners and all with the same problem.

(Plus Ronald from this thread earler today making 5 so far.)

One of the replies mentioned being in Yorkshire and on the O2 service. I am on Virgin cable. So this confirms it is not localised to my area or my ISP.

Another reply mentioned it happening on their Sony KDL-40EX403 TV as well as their S370 so now it seems that (a) it is widespread and (b) not confined to the S370.

I have also submitted an 'enquiry form' to the BBC iPlayer team so I hope that someone there starts to take some note of the problem.

I would be interested to know if this is occurring with the Sony PS3 too. (Not sure if the platform is the same.)

Can't be a server problem as far as I can tell as iplayer still works from my laptop - I have same issue, Sony BDP-370, Virgin broadband, been broken all evening and the other BDP on demand services work ok.

Annoying as I've really got used to the convenience of watching on the BDP recently instead of faffing with laptops etc!

Still failing and now even more updates on the BBC iPlayer messageboard from other Sony S370, S470, S570 and Sony Bravia TV users.

I have phoned the BBC and was asked to fill out an online enquiry and leave a message on the iPlayer message board (all of which I had already done).

Can't do anything else now except wait for Sony and the BBC to notice anything is wrong and hope they don't just blame each other and instead try to investigate this.

A reply to an email from Sony that was posted on the BBC iPlayer help pages today...

"Dear Mr ...

Thank you for your recent e-mail received on 08/10/2010

In regards to your e-mail, I can confirm that there is currently an issue
with the BBC iPlayer on the BRAVIA Internet Video systems.
Unfortunately, this is not a Sony related issue as the problem stems
from the BBC. As a result, I cannot offer you a solution to the problem
at this time.

The BBC is aware of this problem and hopefully a
solution will be forthcoming shortly. I can only advise that you keep
trying to access the iPlayer until the service becomes active again, or
alternatively contact the BBC to see if they have any information
regarding the issue.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this may
cause and that I cannot be of greater assistance on this occasion,
however I hope that my e-mail has gone some way to clarify this matter.

Yours sincerely

roger06:Phew - we'd have never have thought to 'keep trying'. Thank goodness for such helpful advice!!!

Yes, I was expecting some Sony technical bods (from the Sony UK team that engineer the Bravia internet firmware etc.) to talk to their counterparts at the BBC about any recent 'tweaks' or changes to the iPlayer platform that may have caused this 4 day outage.

From that email response though it seems Sony are going to sit on their hands.

If the BBC determine it is a Sony problem then every Bravia iPlayer user is sitting in the middle without a service they paid for. (Via licence fee and Sony product purchase.)

If the service is not back and the BBC and Sony are still playing 'responsibility ping-pong' by 4th November, then I suppose we can try asking Eric Kingdon on his next WHF web-chat.

Hi All,

Firstly let me apologise for the problems you have all been experiencing using the BBC I-Player on Sony kit.

The problem with access from BDP units was caused by one of our servers which has now been corrected and a separate issue restricting access from Bravia TV's has also been resolved. BBC I-Player is now up and running on all enabled products.

Regards

John Cobb
