Thinking of changing my B 'n' O Avant TV after 20 years to a none B 'n; O telly and I want to continue using my surround speakers --- 2 active 8000s and 2 6000s Bang and Olufsen. The guys in the TV shops tell me I can't but surely there would be a way to do it using some sort of say, home cinema module or similar idea ?

Any suggestions out there would be welcome.

I just need a simple bigger screen TV but can't afford a compatable Bang n Olufsen.

It's relatively easy. The only difference about B&O tvs is that they contain a surround processor and pre-amp.

As B&O speakers are active, ie have a power amp in them, you would need a preamplifier and dac. For surround sound a surround amp with pre-outs for all speakers will be fine. I remember someone with a marantz doing the same There are aftermarket cables available to connect the amps pre outs to the speakers.

Connect the samsung tv to the surround amp via hdmi or to the bluray player.

Thanks for that but i'm a bit of a novice, but not stupid and learning as I go along. Do you know is each speaker assignable individually from a home cinema/surround sound module to play stuff transmitted in ' surround sound ' genre or does it just supply two lefts and two rights in stereo or is this a silly question 'cos there's no difference ?

Also do you know any brand products for surround sound modules ? ( a lot of forum info. seems to refer only to stereo 2 speaker methods of connection not 4 speaker ) Also I've not bought my new tv which will not necessarily be a Samsung but am I right in presuming that most modern TVs have similar outputs ?

Thanks' phil.

Regarding your first question: with a surround amp each speaker is driven by it's own channel. Good for surround effects, mostly used in movies. Two lefts and two rights is not possible as far as I know with pre-outs. Basically their are surround amp receivers with 2 channel pre outs for stereo and with 5, 7 or even more for creating a surround sound used in films.

One example would be this (look under specifications): http://www.marantz.co.uk/uk/products/pages/productdetails.aspx?catid=hometheatre&subcatid=avreceiver&productid=sr5009

It doesn't really matter which tv brand you would choose as the tv can be connected to the surround amp via hdmi video out. The sound is transmitted via the pre outs of the amps to your B&O speakers, the video from your blu-ray player to your surround amp to your tv via hdmi
