Hello guys,

I'm new here and just had a couple of questions,

Firstly, is this actually any good? I mean I know bang and olufsen are a fantastic make but is this good?

I got this from a family member who recently passed and from what I've used of it, it sounds great. I only have cheap crappy speakers as I'm waiting for my family to go through and find the bose speaker's they originally used. But I do have the bose subwoofer, part of the bose cube speaker's at the moment, connected up.

Just wondering which speaker's are worth getting to get the best sound, I am a huge music fan and do listen pretty much all day so I would like something that will sound good and last.

Thanks,

Sam

Yes it is good, it's a free Hi-Fi

If it all still works well and you can find some speakers to match with it, it should sound pretty good. Bang and Olufsen as a brand tends to be more of a lifestyle choice nowadays rather than out and out sound quality for the money.

The amplifier (if it is a Beomaster 5500) would appear to be 2 x 60watt at 8ohm amplifier. The speaker ports however are on RCA cables, it might be worth a quick call to a B&O dealer to see how they could be utilised if you cant find the original speakers.

Hi Sam

I'm something of an odd thing to find on an audiophile forum - I'm a deeply satisfied B&O owner and ex-audiophool.

I'd suggest joining the Beoworld forums and asking there - they're a friendly lot, and the forum is an independant forum for owners and those who appreciate B&O - it's an excellent resource of information, especially for older B&O of which there are more than a few avid collectors on the site.

That tends to be the audiophile perception, I'd agree, however, with respect, my personal experience with the brand, and those of other audiophiles who've come to B&O after many years with other kit, brands, separates etc, suggests that actually, in comparison to the audiophile so called 'high end' offerings, B&O offer outstanding value for money, both on performance and as an overall ownership experience.

The MMC cartridges pioneered by B&O are excellent. If the turntable is performing well you are the proud owner of a classic treasure. Enjoy! :)
