Cans prior to purchasing p7's:
Grado SR60's - loved them, but only for home usage due to leakage, that in itself was an issue when wife in room trying to watch telly.
sennheiser cx300, got these for travelling to replace iPhone buds. But although in-ears are great for isolation and leakage I wasn't a big fan of in ears ie the fit and the "cleansiness" factors.
So I decided to gun for some high end cans, either on or over ear.
As previously mentioned was closing in on either b&w p5's (style over sound) vs the sennheiser momentum's (sound was better than p5's IMO) definitely with the on-ears. For the over ear momentum's I had issues with the fit, I have quite big lugs and it wasn't the best of fits. So was looking to go with the on ears, cheaper, great sound but I had reservations on the leakage factor, especially with the amount of travel I do (planes, trains etc).
Then b&w released the p7's, much more than I really wanted to pay, but...they fit me superbly, the style is gorgeous (IMO) they can collapse smaller to make it easier to pack, the moe's don't, but what about the sound??
Absolutely stunning, I have a permanent smile when I have them on, the music is almost "3-d" like and totally draws me into it. Great for sound isolation, yes can still hear background noise when on quiet low volumes etc, but crank them up and can't hear anything apart from the sublime music. Note not been on a plane since I got them, which I'm keen to see how they perform. Leakage? Yep there is some, but very very small - not an issue - ie passes the wife test!![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Do I think they are worth £328? Very subjective, bit like is Gareth bale worth £100m? Probably not, but if that is the going rate then it is what it is.
The acid test has been wife and relatives who have tried them, initial reaction is one of shock re price, but when they try them they are blown away by them (I struggled to get them back off the wife the other evening).
So all in all I'm really happy with them.
