B&W MT-25 vs 600-series

Hi all,

in an unlikely turn of events, the Mrs. indicated that she didn't mind the way the 600 series looked. Originally I had planned to go for the B&W MT-25 (5x M-1 satellites + ASW608 sub) because she still wants the lounge to look nice and uncluttered after the new home cinema is installed. But since I now have a semi-go-ahead for the 600 series...

Is this a no-brainer? Going for 2x 685 fronts, 2x 686 rears, HTM62 center and the same ASW608 sub instead of 5x M-1s? Or is this not as clear cut as it seems?

I've only had the MT-25 as demo and most likely will not be able to demo the other combination, so I'd like your advice.
Also: I was looking at the Denon AVR-1910 to power these, if that makes any difference for the combination. Would love to go for the 2310 instead, but doubt I'll be able to stretch my budget that far.

Would the 2310 be wasted on the M1 satellites? (think the budget allows for 2310+MT25 or 1910+600-series or of course 1910+MT25)

Thanks in advance to any feedback!

Well i think that the MT-25 would run fine with both amps but you would get more out of them with the 2310, where as the 600 series really does need something around the £600 or higher priced amp, alternatives are the Yamaha 1065 and 2065 with the 2065 closer to the Denon 3310. What is your budget any way because you need to factor in the price for stands and speaker cables that most forget and that can mount up.If im honest i prefer traditional speakers and i love my Quad-lites running off a Onkyo 606, i could upgrade the amp and get more out of them but i think i would want new speakers then. The Quad-lite mk11 may cost you less than £700 now so that an alternative or even the older MA Radius. For sub/sats the Kef 3005se where around £700 as well might have been silver, but you can find some great package deals saving a £200 and still getting either the Denon 2310 or Yamaha 2065 with them. The price gap between the MT-25 and MT-30 is quite a lot so you could buy the m1's seperate and then buy a sub may cost you slighty more or even the front three of the 600 series and add rears or sub latter. Food for thought hope it helps and not complicates you.

I would recommed a pioneer amplifier for these two sets of speaker packages.

In other shock news the Pope has just returned from a woodland trip with some toilet roll and a newspaper.

I have to say the B&W 685 theatre(upgraded the rears to 685's and sub to asw610) is great and i run mine off the denon 2310 and i am very pleased with them! It certainly recommend them aswel if you like listening to music as well

I've just demoed (and subsequently bought) the 684 theatre series with the Denon 2310.

I didn't try the cheaper amp or the 685s but if it's a patch on the bigger brothers then I'm sure you'll be happy.

(As previously mentioned, it was their ability with music and the integration of everything for surround sound that sold them to me)

Thanks for all the replies.

I might look into a demo of the Yamaha receivers too. Kinda steered clear of them since I wasn't entirely happy with my current Yamaha (I find the dialogue to not always be very clear).

Looks like I'm sold on the 600-series speakers. All I need to do now is find room in the budget for a more powerful receiver (the 2310 or an alternative) or at the very least try to get a demo of the 1910 with the 600-series to make sure their quality is not wasted on it.
