B&W DM 602 S2 or S3 a friend has an option to buy any which one is best?

Go for the S3's, they improved on an already good speaker. Better mid range and high frequency perforrmance.

Look the dogs as well in comparison to the S2's.

I listened to both before buying, and while the difference is not that much, I found the S3's more revealing.

Both speakers however really kick out a good stompimg tune when played loud. But for more neighbour friendly listening the S3's have the edge.

S3 was a significant improvement over the S2 which was itself an extremely accomplished budget speaker.

I think your friend would be happy with either. The biggest difference was between S1 and S2, with the S2 being far punchier, making the S1 sound slow and muddy. Moving from S2 to S3, the difference was smaller, but they were far closer in sound than S1/S2. I think it would depend on the price difference between the S2 and S3.

Make sure he has a good amp though - the 600 series dips to 4ohms, and needs more control in the bass area than most other competition at it's original price point. The Rotel amps always went very well with them.
