Dont know about the surround sound setup but I used to have Arcam and B&W 2 channel setup which worked very well together.

Not sure is if this helps..but I have an Arcam AVR350 and B&W MT30 system, both from 3 years or so ago. I have changed my screen since to a Pioneer 5090 and will upgrade my Blu Ray Pana BD55...but no intention of changing the Arcam/B&W - they are wonderful, quality, flexible works of engineering and art.

Traditionally they've been a very good match. Older sterio kit like mine tends towards a warm balance though a little more bass control wouldn't go amiss.
Newer speakers like your 684's should overcome this nicely and produce a great sound.

If my memory serves the AVR280 uses the guts from the sterio Alpha 8 amp while the AVR350 is based around the Alpha 9 like mine. It may be slightly more modern than that but all the same I'd see if your budget can stretch to an AVR350 - your speakers will certainly welcome the extra beef :)

I think they work superbly together!! My B&W's sounded great with my AVR350, and now even more so with the 600. They both love high volumes, so I find the harder I push 'em, the better they sound

!!

I also found my old B&W 602s3 worked great with my then 2channel Marantz set up, so there's always a reason for auditioning different brands before you buy..........
