How do the old b&w 805 speakers compare to the newer 805s sound wise? also this may be a stupid question but is the cherry finish the same colour in both as ive looked at a set of each and the older model appear lighter wonder if this was the case when they were new. Thanks

What Top Gear said about the Porsche 911 applies here, the difference indesign between the 805 and 805s is "the least a man can get". Bar a few anorak changes they are cosmetically very similar though the 805s was completely rebuilt and most of the components were changed. I heard them both before I bought my 805s and I can say the result is a more transparent and cohesive sound due to a much improved crossover.

Don't know about the cherry though but I can assure you black is black.ÿ

Thanks for your reply i saw a set of 805 reasonably cheap £600 second hand and wondered if they would be a good purchase as rears in my set up with 805s's as the fronts but maybe not then.ÿ

Rears? Personally I'd settle for the 805 as rears! The 805 are still a fantastic speaker and unless you are playing your HT at ludicrously high volumes you won't using them to their potential, and even then you probably won't be able to hear the difference between the two because of the situation of the speakers. 805s go for well over a grand s/h so I think you should go for the 805!
