That is what I thought Active 800's. - maybe just for the bass drivers if not the full unit to allow bass dsp to sort out room problems

When you look at the shape - its very much a different shape of speaker - different design - maybe rear radiating or something

the classic curved shape is gone for a more square back

and the mid range housing no longer receedes into the main curved enclosure, its got a loner nautilus tube - thats just from the silhouette :)

Going to be expensive for sure

They've been very coy in what they've said. They haven't said they are replacing the kevlar cone, but that they've discovered something that makes a dramatic difference. Interesting! Can't wait to hear more about them. Whilst they will undoubtedly sound superb, I think the styling may take some getting used to (in my opinion).

I think they are a thing of beauty and instantly identifiable.

Although for similar money Wilson Audio Sabrina are supposed to be damn hot speakers and small foot print.

I don't dislike them, and they're certainly identifiable. Just not as 'classic' as the previous range. Not that this is a bad thing, and it certainly wouldn't put me off buying a pair if I was in the position to. Hopefully, based upon the previous few years at Bristol, B&W will be showing these off in February.

They do look stunning in the flesh. The photos on their website don't quite get that across, nor the photos I took at the dealer launch last week (only an iPhone though).

I think I'll quite quickly be convinced! Perhaps I was being unkind, I like both styles of the new and now old version, perhaps it would be kinder for me to say one is very modern and the other more old school. Regardless I'm very excited by this! Interesting there appears to be no 800 speaker listed on their website. I'm very jealous you had a peek last week!!

If its £18,000 for a pair of speakers

Hi philpot1001

Dare i say still a relative fraction of the the likes of Raidho Acoustics Diamond D-5's at £150k, Focal Grande Utopia EM at £145k, ATC SCM300ASL Tower Burr Magnolia POA (£60k +), etc.

All the best

Rick @ Musicraft

hahaha quite the bargain! ...relatively ;-)
