I think its a shame that the best looking blu ray ever is such a poor film. Weak plot, rubbish characters and all too familiar Hollywood trash.

Proves that technology on its own cannot make a good film, just a bad one slightly bearable!

I will stick to my Dances with Wolves DVD, and dream of what could have been...

Hi white91

Yes, Dances With Wolves is an excellent film. Are you aware of any news regarding the directors cut for the UK version?

Thanks

after waching the film let the end credits run.its got a great thx thingy at the end

I came here to say this. It's definitely worth hanging on till the end of the credits (or skipping them if you're so inclined - that Leona Lewis song is one of the main letdowns of the film), the THX trailer at the end certainly stands to justify the money you spent on your speaker system (and I've never heard such a note from my sub before... scared the bejesus out of my cat who made the mistake of sitting a little too close).

A search on YouTube for "Avatar THX" will bring up the trailer I'm talking about... but if I were you I'd wait until you get home, jump to the end of the credits, turn the volume up, and enjoy.

Oh yes, and the film isn't bad either. There is certainly a little something missing in only 2D, but the visuals are still immensely stunning; you will be hard pressed to find better visuals in a film. Certainly a reference Blu-ray most should own.

I got the German release last year, I think it's the Director's Cut.

My son and his 2 cousin's watched it and thought it was good, but said they found some of it hard to understand. I think it's another one of those films that wants to appeal to too bigger an audience and then ends up being just mediocre to both kids and adults.

there were some really silly scenes in the film , like the very wise and knowledgable smurfs trying to shoot down helicopters with bows and arrows ?

Having not seen this at the cinema or played the games versions, so with no spoiler to ruin the setting - I enjoyed this movie for what it was and did not notice the 2 hours and 40 odd minutes. The attention to detail in the visual side was second to none, so for me it lived up to the hype. I did enjoy his ex missus film the Hurt Locker.

No problems playing on a 1.1 profile BD Player.

well i went to Pandora myself today, yep saw Avatar (the full length version i think) it like lasted 2 hours and 35 minutes, must have been. I also saw the philips 42pfl9664 and the philips 40pfl9704 (that definetely has a feel of the Aurura about it), very nice, also saw the samsung again the 3D one that was good i saw it on a different feed, also saw the new sonys, there were two clear winners for me know.

Never got to see the film at the cinema but have to agree that the film's plot and storyline were fairly average, but I still enjoyed the film because the visual quality of the bluray were second to none and their is no doubt that vibrant colour CGI works very well on the 1080P format (which you'd expect it to really). DTS-HD Master Audio was good but have heard better soundtracks.

The 162 minute film uses around 42 gb of the disc space (84%) and has been very well mastered/optimised for the format.

I agree that both picture and sound are top notch, but why not put a full 7.1 sound track on?

If they can remaster the original Star Trek films with 7.1 why not produce Avatar with 7.1 from the off?

Will be sitting down to watch this in the next hour - I must say I'm actually looking forward to seeing the movie in a couple of different ways. A colleague says the picture is the best he's ever seen, so will be nice to see what it looks like on my Mitsu. Also, it will be interesting to see if I actually enjoy it....

It's a show of defiance, and it's all they had. A hopeless defence against all the odds is the stuff epic moments are made of.....
