We haven't got this product yet - it's brand new direct from AVA's Manchester labs - so I will need to ask David and Martin for more info.

Pure 'fluff'.

Agreed, sounds like the marketing department have got their 'digitals' mixed up. They need a good PR Woman to go in and rewrite it if you ask me.

Still, I think it's an interesting, clean solution for some applications (PCs or TVs with optical out, for example).

Anyhoo. No-one has yet explained...

"this is Pure Digital Amplification"

If you Google PurePath Digital amplification you'll get a bit more info: clickety. "PurePath technology amplifies the audio while maintaining a pure digital format from source to speaker."

I did check this on Friday with our Tech Ed and apparently it does work without a conventional DAC (others have done it before), but he'd be better able to explain it than me. I'll get him and the guys from AVA to post on here on Monday with a more detailed explanation.

Thanks Andy & Clare.

I appreciate that the point of conversion is pushed further towards the speaker in this kind of configuration, but those 4mm speaker terminals on the back look suspiciously analogue to me and therefore - obviously - digital to analogue conversion is taking place no matter what it's called.

Digital signal --> conversion to analogue signal --> amplification can't really be messed with even if you move the conversion into the speaker cabinet (like AVI actives).

AVA on their home page are not saying 'PurePath' or 'Pure Audio Stream'. They are clearly stating they use 'Pure Digital Amplification' in their Maestro 50.

It if's not really Pure Digital Amplification, then it's about as useful as Technics claims of 'Class AA' for some of their old amps or manufacturers who describe their powered speakers as 'active'.

Many have asked 'how does it work' - if you would like to review this following: page: http://www.pureaudiostream.com/technology/

...The Maestro True Digital Amplifiers use a novel technology to deliver 'digital sound' signals to your loud speakers. Unlike regular amplifiers the Maestro is a single box, replacing the traditional DAC > Pre-Amp > Power Amp boxes.

It can all get a little too technical, but for those who 'really need to know', we've put together a brief description below. There are 3 core stages that the incoming digital stream is processed through - and it's not until the final stage that it becomes 'analog' - and it's this feature amongst others that keeps the music 'true'...

Reads exactly the same as the technical description of the Myryad Mi on their website. (Although - from review dates - it seems the Myryad Mi pre-dates this AVA product by some 4 years at least. So AVA's claim of 'novel technology' is a bit late.)

I'm not sure that an amplifier having a 'unique' sound is a good thing.

It is however, an unobtrusive amp and seems ideal for a one digital source in a 2.1 system. A neat solution.

Trust me, it makes perfect sense!*

I suggested that suede's posts were an advert, then you come along with another positive comment, so then we have two advertisers, ie Saatchi and Saatchi, emphasising the AND then sounds like the line from the Blues Brothers, "oh, we got both kinds, Country AND Western", so a simple substitution gives us my reply to your post, see? Perfectly logical from start to finish!

*IN MY MIND!!!!

You can think what you want but I've been a member for a long time and the fact is that I want to know more about the maestro-50 amp because I ordered one. I'm in no way related to ava media if that's what you think.

Just think before you write something.

Let's put it like this, Im a big fan of Scottish single malt (DS) whiskey without going into details and been so for a long time. You only have to plug in the speakers and start playing to realize that this is a new dimension.

The price might not speak for something extra ordinary but It is.

I would like to see a comparison between the top range of digital stream players on the market, that would be very interesting.

The concept of a joke is not something you're familiar with then?
