So there won't be much difference in the performance between the two then ?

None. They took their practical product (used by bands for isolation of amps etc), made it smaller and look a little "sexier", targeted "gullable" audiophiles.....and put the price up!

See my post No.9, where I describe how to make it look better (I painted the wood matte black).

Am interested that you put the granite under the Gramma. Did you try it the other way round - that would make more sense to me ?? Very interested in your thinking/experience here. Thanks

Just bought a subdude HD for my sub (i would have got a Gamma, especially as they are cheaper, but it was just too big for where I need to put it.

I was just wondering whether I should put the subwoofer on the subdude on it's spikes, or take the spikes off and just use the feet?

I wonder if cnoevil or someone else with one of these could me know how they're doing it, and if either way has proven better in their experience.

Cheers

I didn't try it the other way round for 2 reasons:

- The whole design of it, is to use the sandwich construction to block the sound, and I was worried that putting the granite on top would prevent this. I put it underneath to block any noise that made it through...it seemed to work.

- Secondly (and probably more importantly) it allowed me to trim the thing round with wood, which takes the ugly look off it, and makes it more stable.

Hi Dan

I rang Dolphin Music about this, and they said to keep as much surface area of the sub as possible in contact with the Gramma. ie. without the spikes (or even the feet - if poss).

My sub is too big and difficult to move, so I left the shallow metal feet in place.

I would try both.

I also found a Copper Line Alpha + made a surprising improvement.

Thanks Cno - I have an REL Quake which is down-ward firing so i'll have to leave the feet in place, but I will remove the spikes. I have upgraded the mains cable to a Russ Andrews Powermax, which did seem to improve things a little.

cheers

Let me know how you get on....I have no idea how it will effect a down-firing sub (maybe granite on top might work).

Just took delivery of the auralex gramma isolation riser. My question is do i take the spikes off the bottom sub ( they are two M&K MX-350 subs, one on top of the other ) and put the rubber feet back on and put it on the isolator or not ?

Can you try: no feet vs rubber feet vs spikes (in spike shoes).

I wouldn't use spikes directly into the Gramma.

The Gramma is supposed to work best, with as much of the surface area of the bottom of the sub touching it.

If your sub is downward-firing like mine, I have granite on top of the subdude, so that the sound is reflected out and away from the sub into the room, but the subdude beneath the granite prevents/reduces the travel of the downward-firing bass to the floorboards beyond.

Hi Cno

I having just recieved my subdude I also rang dolphine music regarding spikes etc. They put me through to someone at Auralex not sure if it was one of their aurlex specialist of the actual Auralex company. But the guy told me that the spikes would further enhance the isolation which is confusing. Have you tried this combination? It seems i will have to try feet spikes ect but.

When I rang them, they told me to remove the spikes, so to have as much of the surface area of the bottom of the speaker in contact with it as possible.

I think this is a trial and error thing. My speakers have the option of adjustable flat metal feet which I use (allows me to keep the speakers level). IMO If you try spikes, make sure you use spike shoes to prevent damage to the Subdude.
