Hello Claire,

When are we going to see a review of Samsung's 8000 series LED back lit television?

In anticipation.

Andrew Everard:

...Postman Pat willing...

PP might well have been willing, except he stuck not only this month's WHFS&V through next door's letterbox, but "another hi-fi mag" that I have on subscription too. Grrrr...

Must contact Specsavers to find out when their next mailshot is.

Got the August 09 issue this morning, Pages 3 - 82 (the 1st half of the magazine) took me ALL OF 15 minutes to read, so that's the magazine done for the month - now I'll just re-read the back issues (for the millionth time!)

The Buyer's Guide (the 2nd half of the magazine) is the same old stuff with the ads etc. etc.

Aren't these iPods, iPhones reviewed by the magazine's sister publication, STUFF? 7 full pages dedicated to these electrical gizmos just seem too much, seeing how the content for hi-fi is diluted as it is, in favour of A/V.

Fantastic Cyrus 8SE + PSX-R prize for the upcoming contest though!

Since the (original) Walkman era, we've always put more portable kit in the early-summer issues (remember our Stereo on the Go supplements in the 1980s/1990s?) because it's a popular time for people to buy them, pre-holiday. Hence coverage of the very latest multimedia portables plus battery-powered docks designed to fit in your suitcase. We'll follow this up with a special feature next issue on in-ear headphones.

Sorry it took you 15 minutes to read an issue that is packed with hi-fi - including the lead First Test of the NaimUniti, to exclusive First Tests of the new Cambridge Audio 650A and 650C amplifier and CD player, a stereo speakers Group Test, a hi-fi only Temptations test section, The Big Question on hi-fi system-matching and a four-page feature on the Future of Hi-fi. You must be a fast reader!

my mistake 'Clare'

Sorry

As soon as Samsung gets us this long-requested series of sets, we'll be reviewing them ASAP!

I am a fast reader, yes. But considering the first tests of both the new Cambridge Audio 650A and 650C were in one page, with a half page dedicated to each, that is hardly an exhaustive read! Both reviews were very brief.

The Group Test for the Stereo Speakers was better, yes. The rest, well.....I'll leave it at that.

Bringing in a panel of readers every month is a very good idea. Btw, who are those three gentlemen at the top left hand corner of the page, sitting in darkness. They appear in every issue.

I can only deduce that they were the first three ever to be invited? The originals?

Welcome to the 21st Century ValianTX!

It's actually the shadowy cabal behind the magazine....Nah, it's from an earlier reader feature!

Good piece on the naimuniti. Thanks. All good material to leave open on the couch. Maybe the wife will suggest a one-box Naim system looks better and I can buy it because it is her idea.

For the suggested speakers (PMC DB1i's) you have the wrong picture and wrong price quoted. (They are not £775 but more like £895 nowadays regrettably.)

I am suprised you are suggesting Chord Carnival Silverscreen. I would also recommend either those (or NAC-A5) cables myself, but I thought WHF would have suggested something more expensive between the naimuniti and the DB1i's.

Shows how good a cable it is.

Having not read the magazine for several months, I have to day I was disappointed with the August issue. 23 pages of HiFi, including some which featured just a picture of the product, is hardly extensive coverage when compared to the amount allowed for A/V. I'd finished reading after 10 minutes.

Perhaps a re-title is in order - something like "What A/V" in bold type followed by "and stereo" in smaller would give a more accurate idea of what the magazine is about.

I'm also puzzled as to why the recommended music to test your system did not seem to have been used in the reviews, and each review seemed to use different test tracks.

The clue's in the 'Sound and Vision' part of the title...

But at least you can be happy in the fact that you read 50% faster than ValianTX - it took him 15 mins.
