Clare Newsome:
Since the (original) Walkman era, we've always put more portable kit in the early-summer issues (remember our Stereo on the Go supplements in the 1980s/1990s?) because it's a popular time for people to buy them, pre-holiday. Hence coverage of the very latest multimedia portables plus battery-powered docks designed to fit in your suitcase. We'll follow this up with a special feature next issue on in-ear headphones.
Sorry it took you 15 minutes to read an issue that is packed with hi-fi - including the lead First Test of the NaimUniti, to exclusive First Tests of the new Cambridge Audio 650A and 650C amplifier and CD player, a stereo speakers Group Test, a hi-fi only Temptations test section, The Big Question on hi-fi system-matching and a four-page feature on the Future of Hi-fi. You must be a fast reader!
I am a fast reader, yes. But considering the first tests of both the new Cambridge Audio 650A and 650C were in one page, with a half page dedicated to each, that is hardly an exhaustive read! Both reviews were very brief.
The Group Test for the Stereo Speakers was better, yes. The rest, well.....I'll leave it at that.
Bringing in a panel of readers every month is a very good idea. Btw, who are those three gentlemen at the top left hand corner of the page, sitting in darkness. They appear in every issue.
I can only deduce that they were the first three ever to be invited? The originals?
