Audiolab 8200A, but what speaker to consider?

Hello, im looking to buy some speakers to use with the Audiolab 8200A, but what should concider? and is it possible to go over the top, E.G some MA GX100's be overkill? only can get these for £500 at the moment, i dont have the biggest of rooms, and they will also be part of a 5.1 setup too, so many options my head hurts 🙂

Once again it doesn't really matter that much as to what speakers you use with this amp, it is what speakers are going to work in harmony with your listening room that counts.

Agreed, this amp will drive any speaker mostly. It sounded great with dynaudio DM 2/7's, so the gx 100 will prob sound great.

The MA's might very well match his amp, but in reality I'm not going to tell him that as I not sitting in his listening room, and if he tries to integrate these into a home-cinema situation the could be sorely disappointed.

My point is he has to audition, if he can, if not they may or may not sound ok.

The speakers originally retailed for £1200ish. I would think they're pretty well sorted for use....

If they were budget I'd totally agree with you ref audition.

But worth taking a punt - he could sell them on no problems for the same price, maybe more.

My setup is all new, been upgrading the last month so this is what i have at so far;
HiFi Audiolab 8200A, Arcam BDP 100 (cd playback only), Audiolab Q-DAC, Q acoustics 2020i. Av Onkyo TX-NR838, Pioneer LX52 BLU RAY, Q acoustics 2020i fronts and centre, ELTAX BI POLARS 🙂 I use the Audiolab in AV mode when using 5.1, and use the Q Dac for spotify and the pc, and just looking to upgrade my speakers, getting a demo is not an option as i live miles from and decent audio shop, so its online shopping for me so i can send them back if needed, im more worried about the the GX 100 being overkill and worthy of a better amp, but at £500 and £350 for the GX150 im thinking its got to be worth a punt?

Much better than with the AV amp, not had a deticated Stereo Amp Before, but i listen to as much music as i do tv etc, so had to try it and so glad i did

Then get the speakers.

If the amp works well with your budget speakers the MA's should only improve things - the AVamp will also benefit.

Your definition of budget may not be everyone's and surely you are not saying audition budget speakers but just buy more expensive ones on spec, are you?

Er....I kinda am....

The only reason being auditioning speakers don't tell you how they'll sound in your home.

I've heard a few Well accepted speakers in demos and walked away thinking..... Uhh?

Most recently some CM8's and KEF rn500's but reading user reviews suggest the conditions I heard them under were not ideal.

Once we enter into the £1000ish bracket speakers do the basics right and it's a positioning issue to get the most from them.

My opinion though, not gospel.

Well i got them and im so glad i did, dont know why at first it was strange to adjust to the sound, and hard to even they sounded better than the Q 2020i's, but after putting on my playlist and closing my eyes and just chilling it soon became obvious they sounded amazing, i dont believe that speakers and other hardware need burnin time, i believe its the brain the requires time take in the adjust, anyway thanks all 🙂
