Anyone using the AT95E cart will be blown away by changing the stylus to the 95EX version. It tracks superbly at 2 grammes.

Sounds great for the Heavy Metal fans.... ;-)

Or any other vinyl fans.

What's new about it? Didn't the old one track at 2 gms?

It did, but not that well on the inner grooves. EX is 0.3 x 0.7mil, E is 0.4 x 0.7. I thought I'd try one as my Grado black needed a stylus and I had the AT lying around. Much better all round than the Grado and no hum!

Excellent news. You had hum from the Grado? Not good. I've only ever used one and had no issues with that as I recall.

Got to be a bit of a bargain at £30...

AT95E tracking at 1.5 vtf. Superb cartridge.

It doesn't quite track everything at that weight because it isn't an AT440. Have you tried the new EX stylus? Well worth the money. Still needs about 2 grammes though.

Yes. I spent some time finding out whether really 1.5 vtf is too low and cause more wear than more force. Actually physically only bigger weight will put more wear on LPs. I think low weight is a bit of a myth ? The sound seems great so are you sure it is not tracking everything ? The ranges from 1.5 to 2g sound great with this cart but I think 1.5 to 1.6 sounds the best. I'll try the EX stylus also.

The E stylus is worse at tracking loud sibilant sounds on the inner tracks. I have a couple of discs I use to determine whether the tracking is good.

Let us say that as a newbie in TT area - I am currently under big impression from my AT95E cart. The question is , how can a stylus / cart for let us say 200 Euro improve the sound that already is so good. Is there really such a big difference ?

Yes! But it also depends on the turntable too... don't bother mounting a £700 cart on a £200 TT, it will sound good but nowhere near its real potential.

The price of the turntable isn't really relevant, as long as it has an arm that is suitable for the cartridge. High compliance cartridges like the Shure V15 will perform poorly on high mass arms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvne7oypwiQ

Agree that compliance will affect performance but are you implying that a £200 turntable will sound just as good as a £2000 turntable if both were fitted with the same £500 cart, (with no compliance issues)?

I'm saying a good turntable is a good turntable regardless of the cost. My criteria would be no motor noise, low wow and flutter and an arm that floats freely when set to the balance point.
