i sit 2.5m from a tv and was looking for at 40-42" range however there I have been told, and am siding towards a 46". however when the kids play on the wii they are probably 1.5-2m away from the tv. i am wondering at what point with a tv like a 46", that at a closer distance does the picture look poor and more pixelated ?? therefore am thinking back to 40". hope this aint a dopey question but any views ??

well i think sets have got better and you can now sit closer, i have a 42'' and sit about 11ft away the room dimensions are 22ft by 11.5 ft, even my wife agrees we need bigger. i'm going for a 50'' in the next couple of weeks I have considered 46'' but think the impact will be better with a 50''

A friend of mine has a pio 8th generation 50'' he sits about 8/9 ft the picture is pretty pixelated I would say that is too close

Have a 46 inch 1080p screen and sit 2.6m away. Also have a WII whose picture compared to the excellent blu ray images i get can only be considered 'rough' at best especially playing very close to the tv. Don't worry about it too much, 2.5 to 2.6 metres for HD viewing is about right for a 46 inch screen. Playing WII is far to involving for us to worry about the image quality.

Bear in mind that a Wii is a standard definition console, so it's not going to look fantastic on a large hi-def screen. Having said that, I play Mario Kart on my projector, which is a 7 foot wide screen, and it looks acceptable. You soon forget the graphics once you're into the game anyway.

at what distance does a tv picture appear pixellated? i'd say if your nose is touching the screen, it will certianly look pixellated!

joking aside, HD stuff on a HD screen shouldn't ever look pixellated!?

As already mentioned pixelation on a TV not only depends on the screen size and viewing distance, but also to a very large extent on the screen resolution and content. Wii is standard definition and will therefore look pixelated already from 3 meters on a 46 inch screen. 720p and 1080p will however look excellent even closer to the screen.

So it is all about compromise. As also mentioned, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the Wii experience. I agree, that once playing, you forget about the poor resolution and pixelation. If you really worry about this you shouldn't get a Wii, but rather an XBox or PS3, which displays HD content rather than SD content.

At 2.5m I would personally go for 46 inches.
