Do you have windows 8 or 8.1?

I know microsoft used windows 8.1 to return elements of the windows 8 user interface, to a more traditional experience.

just found the section to tell, it's 8.1

From this useful page:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/where-is-start-menu

To boot to the desktop instead of Start
You can go to the desktop instead of the Start screen whenever you sign in to your PC.

Open Taskbar and Navigation properties by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clickingSearch), entering Taskbar in the search box, and then tapping or clicking Taskbar and Navigation in the results.

Tap or click the Navigation tab, then tick the When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start checkbox.

Tap or click OK.

ive changed it, thanks for the link.

other than windows 8.1 so far I'm happy with the laptop. Quick enough for what I need. My only other grip is due to the finish and the mouse pad it leaves finger marks and patches on the mouse. I'm now using a USB mouse but it's worth thinking about if you only want to use the laptop mouse pad

cheers

I recently went with Asus for a motherboard in a self-built PC. I never looked back.

The sound quality with the Realtek ALC887 Audio CODEC is amazing. I recently bought the Meridian Explorer and after many comparisons struggle to hear much difference. I think they really know what they are doing with this. I think they select quality components. I wish you the best of luck with your purchase.

I bought two Asus laptops for the girls recently, they were cheap, they feel cheap, girls love them. Specs were decent. Only thing I don't like it's the amount of crap that comes installed on them, I think all the players do that now? I ended up formatting the drives and sticking a copy of Windows 8.1 Pro on both.
