I have only gone an done it! I was changing sides to my audiophile pressing of 'Alan Parsons Project-I Robot', when I accidentally let the record clamp slip out of my fingers...and yes, it has scratched it!! gutted! :-(

Ahhhh, the dark side of the record clamp......

I'm sorry to hear that your copy only remained pristine for 10 or so days!

How bad's the scratch?

(My original copy of I-Robot is more scratch than track - I've sort of grown used to it...)

Someone should possibly make on out of rubber- so that it would just bounce off the record....I would not mind if it was one of my other records but nooooo, it had to be my 200gm one!!

It's not an awful scratch but you can hear a 'donk'(could not think of another way to describe it...) on quiter tracks or when the track starts and ends. Maybe I will get used to it in the end 🙂

Suffering succatash! Its ruined, you might as well snap in two 🙂. Alan and kin will be happy though as you have to go and buy another one now.

I never use a clamp unless the record is badly warped in some way. Think about it, you are running a very fine needle in a very tiny grroove with virtually no pressure. The drag coefficient is negligible and in a way you are causing the middle of the record to indent, especially atop a furry/spongy mat. Btw, you can get rubber clamps. Even the little pig from a Revolver is good enough.
