Archiving HD/Sd material and replay

The question is that i am looking at the Samsung BD-D8900M bluray player and 1 TB HDD. I presume that HD/SD recorded media can be exported via the USB to a storage facility?

If so can this be replayed on any suitable equipment or just this player?

I suspect your presumption is a bit hopeful.

I think the USB connection is only for playback of files.
