I got a new Sony A/V STR2400ES Receiver Vs Aracm Div 137

Unfortunately, when I connect my Arcam to the Sony via HDMI, the Sony won't decode surround sound via the HDMI link (Dolby digital and DTS soundtracks). All I get is Linear PCM stereo.

The receiver decodes surround from both a PS3 and a DVD Recorder, so I suspect it is an Arcam setting.

I have tried connecting the Arcam using the HDMI cable from the PS3.

I have tried connecting the Arcam to different HDMI inputs on the receiver.

I have tried switching the Arcam's audio de-coding from HDMI (Auto) to Bitstream.

But still I only get Linear PCM Stereo (nothing at all when Bitstream is chosen).

I can still get surround using the Analogue Interconnects, but I don't think they are as good.

I've tried connecting a co-ax digital cable, but that doesn't get any sound at all.

Any ideas?

There's nothing wrong with any of your components. ÿThe Arcam DVD player needs to send surround audio via an optical cable. ÿAs you have discovered, HDMI only sends stereo (unlike a Blu-ray player). ÿ
