I know that Arcam seems to be a bit of a Marmite product but has anyone got any views on this spinner. I'm keen to ditch my cd and dvd players and go for a highish end universal player. I've heard that Arcam can sound quite warm and that people think that my RS6s are bright, add some welly from the Cambridge Audio 840, I would have thought a decent sound could be had. Any input would be appreciated.

JohnDuncan:Get that 250 quid yamaha somebody else was talking about!

Why do you say that John? Is it your Arcam hatred talking? That Yamaha is decent but it won't play dvds anywhere near as good as the Arcam and I doubt it would sound as good either. And I bet it's silver!

I'd stick with a decent CDP and a separate DVD player if i were you Gerrardsnails.

I'd go for a decent Arcam CD72 or CD73 CDP; either will match well with your C/A amp and RS6 speakers :)

You could have a look out for a decent Arcam Alpha 9CDP or a CD92/192 if youve got the budget.

I don't agree Dan. I would go for a better DVD player - and that Arcam as an optional stereo output I seem to remember - much better than a CD73T.

Not at all, it's because it's 250 quid and has fantastic reviews (sound and vision).

And DVD players is one area where I would consider Arcam

What price have you seen for the Aracm DV139.

From what i have read the dv139 is simular in quality to the cd73 for cd and a fairly substantial dvd player. I would expect a big improvement over your current dvd and cd and i would think it would suit your current amp/speakers well. But it all depends on the cost i spose.

My DV79 wasn't as good as my (ex) CD92 by any stretch. I personally would go for a CD192 and a DV79, both of which can be bought new for around £400 each at the moment

The 139 retails at £1800 so it should be pretty darn good.

The DV139 is a much better CDP than the CD73.It was designed with the audio side of things in mind as much as the video and is IMHO great in both areas.I had the CD192 before the DV139 and to these ears the DV139 is the better CDP.

I would be surprised if the DV139 wasn't better than the 192 also. I'm not that worried about SACD so I'm now looking at the FMJ DV29 which seems basically the same as the 139 but with no SACD playback.
