ARCAM Delta 290 Integrated Amplifier - which speakers???

I've bought this amp off a friend, and now I need some speakers in the £80 - £160 price range.

What speakers would be a good match for this amp? (I'm thinking of using it with a beresford DAC and my laptop.)

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

The Delta range was Arcam's higher end stuff of the day; a step up from the Alpha series kit. So, see what you can get in the used market. There's nothing currently out there (IMO) that'll do the amp much justice. More for your money and all that.

Please could you specify some good mission speakers.

There are lots on ebay and I'm not sure of the quality of them...

I was thinking specifically of 753s but having checked second hand value they might be a bit pricey

Got my 752s for £80. Excellent floorstander. Also you could do worse than try the 733i another winner for the money. Less capable than the 752, but they go for a song and work well with all kinds of music. Had a pair for ten years or so.

My money would go to the 75 series though, 751 standmounts (had those too - brilliant for the money at the time - £300) and the aformentioned '52 and '53. Bi-amp the Delta and you have one very decent older system that will deliver.

Alternatively, the KEF Q35.2 are another pair worth checking out. Uni-Q driver, very well rated, nice imaging apparently too.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Do you prefer standmount speakers or floorstanding speakers?

IMO I dont think you could go wrong with a decent set of M/A BR2's or B&W 602 S2's on decent mass-loadable stands.

Musicwise I listen to pretty much everything - Classical (Bach and lots of classical guitar music), Instrumental rock/metal (Steve Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert etc), Metal (Metallica, Pantera etc), Indie (Razorlight, Kooks, Death Cab for Cutie etc), Pop Rock (Bloc Party etc), Classic Rock (AC/DC, Guns 'n' Roses, Velvet Revolver etc) - pretty much every type of music except R'n'B and Rap.

I want to get some speakers which I can wall mount, as I don't really have the space for stand mounts and anything that takes up florr space.

Again, any advice would be great!!!

A pair of these wouldnt do you any harm fella. By-wiring involves running two lengths of cable per speaker. One of these is for treble and one for bass, suitable speakers will have two sets of terminals on the back.
