Have just got a 2nd hand Arcam Delta 290 to use as a preamp, this replaces my Rotel RC 870bx.
The difference is ridiculous, though the Rotel sounds good it has always been bass light and has quite a mid sound to it.
Whereas the Arcam has bass that I dreamt of, I knew the Roksan speakers were capable of handling bass, but this Arcam is the first thing I have added that really brings out the bass to another level without losing the mids and treble. The sound is incredibly full with an impresive soundstage. I know as an upgrade it is old gear but to me it's a joy!
I listen to a lot of Rock so this change has pleased me immensely.
I'm also am a fan of Portishead, so I had a listen to Dummy (Timeless classic). There's a track on there called 'Numb' which seemed to have a low sub bass going on which was just audible with the Rotel, but with the Arcam it brings out this sub bass to levels I've never known.
I'd read that Arcam amps tended to be Dark and Warm souunding, after hearing how they really are, I wish I'd made the change earlier, but I'm damn happy now!
