Hi,

have recently purchased and set-up a Sony KDL-40EX503 and Denon 1911 with Sony BD373 and am very happy with the blue-ray 5.1 performance.

My question relates to putting the TV sound through ARC on the HDMI link between TV and AMP.

My (old) NTL/PACE cable TV set-top box is connected via SCART directly to the TV and I would ideally like to drive the sound from it and the Internet channels through the amp and I had understood that this was possible through the the one HDMI cable connecting the TV and AMP (using ARC).

Is this possible to achieve or do I need a seperate optical cable? If so are there particular settings needed on the Sony and Denon.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Guys,

would appreciate if anyone has a similiar setup to the one described and can let me know if I need a seperate optical cable to get my 40EX503 TV working through the Denon.

Thanks

The whole point of ARC is that it's an HDMI implementation. So no, if the TV and amp both support ARC you shouldn't need any other cables.

Hi,

I have a Bravia KDL-40v3000 and just purchased a BDV-E830. I can't play TV audio through the BDV sound system via an HDMI cable so I assume the Bravia HDMI port is not ARC-compliant. But maybe I missed something in the set up. Other functionality seems to be in place. I have read the manuals and forums. Some people have trouble with the same issue.

Does this mean I need an optical audio lead?

The manual makes no mention of ARC, however there is a mention of 2-channel PCM Audio on the HDMI leads. This most likely means that it only supports audio in and no ARC. An optical cable in the SPDIF out is a solution in this case
