I have recently connected my Apple TV into my Leema Elements Amp + DAC using an optical connection and have a strange problem.

If I turn the Leema on first then the AppleTV, I get no sound. If I turn on the AppleTV first, then the Leema, I get sound. If there is no sound I have to turn the Leema off and on again.

Any ideas why is this happening?

Also the Leema's front display says the "44.1/48 PCM LOCK". Confused as to why it shows 2 bit rates and what PCM LOCK means?

The ATV turns everything to 48, but I'm not sure what the the Leema display is telling you. I had horrendous problems when I first got an ATV. I was using a different DAC to the one you have and I had to replace it twice, thanks to the manufacturer, before it would maintain a consistent connection to the DAC. The DACs that didn't work for me apparently worked faultlessly with a different ATV on the companies test bench.

i'm very pleased with the ATV and took delivery of a second one yesterday.

You need to go into Settings for your ATV and makesure it does not switch off. Maybe you have to set sleep to 'never', something like that.

That way the digital output is always on and you will not lose lock.

Thanks Dave. It just occurred to me that maybe the AppleTV is outputting Dolby 5.1 by default so my amp refuses it. Then when I play music the ATV switches to stereo which is why I have to restart the amp to make it re-read the signal?

I will have to have a fiddle tonight.

I have tried setting the Apple TV Dolby Digital Out to "Off". I also tried disabling sleep on the ATV.

Neither fixed the issue which is that I have to turn the Leema off and on again for it to connect to Apple TV successfully.
