Apple TV cable choice

Having recently aquired an Apple Tv 160 Gig unit, I am now looking at the best way as far as audio quality is concerned of connecting it to my Onkyo 608. At present it is via a Chord Supershield HDMI lead,but I am wondering are there any sonic benefits of using the analogue or optical outputs? Your views please.

I have my ATV -> HDMI -> TV -> analogue -> amp and ATV -> optical -> Caiman DAC -> analogue -> amp.

Same source to same amp and the optical via DAC sounds much better. I would suggest trying an optical cable between your ATV and reciever as the reciever DAC may be better than the ATV. I am not sure how good the Onkyo DAC compares with externals.
