Hi All,

I'm just about to move in to a new house with the missus for the first time. I'm desperate to get a new TV, dvd recorder and surround sound. I would like a 42" Tv but she wants smaller. I also need to convince her that surround sound does not mean massive speakers everywhere.

My Questions:

1. I need a great TV 37"-42" - budget of £800

2. I'm thinking of getting Sky+ so would like a DVD Recorder to burn anything I'd like to keep. Is this the best way or would you recommend a DVD Recorder with HDD? Any suggestions for either with budget of £150 (recorder only) or £200 (with HDD)

3. A surround sound system that performs but does not dominate the room (budget of £300 max)

Help! My relationships (with girlfriend and television) depend on you!

Hi there,

1) At that money, i'd opt for this 37in Panasonic plasma - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TH-37PX70-Widescreen-Plasma-Freeview/dp/B000P0IW0U

2) I'd also see how you get on with Sky+ before you decide you need to archive and buy a DVD recorder -it's surprising how little you do want to keep, and you might find the money better spent spread over the year on DVD boxsets (which will be better quality)....which you can play on:

3) Something like this upscaling Sony

should suit for both surround sound and missus-approval. Full review of that £600 system in next week's issue.
