Anyone using Raumfeld understand the Chromecast integration?

Hi all. There is an update to allow Raumfeld products be Chromecast compatible. I'm finding it hard to figure out exactly what it means as even the Facebook page is in German and the translation are iffy.

Does anyone know what exactly this will mean. Thanks

At this point. As a user I currently appear to have no requirement for Chromecast but I shall, when I have the time, look into it.

In the meantime I have always found tech support to be very helpful, excellent english and reasonably quick to respond.

Thanks. I did drop an email yesterday and got back a German response, but very likely that was a generic response and they will follow up.

It's not something I really need but if it means the unit can be cast to from android phones it's another little plus.

If I get any info I'll follow up here.

Still delighted with this box

You will be able to use Google Cast. An app available for both Android and windows (and apple I would assume).

So, when using a compatible service such as Tidal, Spotify etc. You can stream directly.

GC is integrated with these and other services. That also goes for the non-audio chromecast.

Not sure if that answers your
Question?.

Thanks drummerman. I had assumed that's what it meant, but wasn't fully sure. The Raumfeld connector I have has tune in built in, but for some reason the tune in app on my phone has more stations and Murphy's law the main one I listen to is on my phone but not on the RC.

This update should sort this very minor issue

Same here!

Quite a good way to play wirelessly from my MacBook.

As a Raumfeld Connector user, with Macbook and iPad, I really want to know what the Chromecast implementation means for me.

At the moment I use Spotify Connect for virtually all of my music listening, I sometimes miss not having Airplay, but really not that much else.

Any thoughts?

The great thing about using SoundCast* on a Mac is that it can send ALL the audio output of the Mac to a GoogleCast device such as CCA or (now) the Raumfeld Connector2 over wifi. That includes iPlayer, iTunes, YouTube, etc. Previously, I think you'd have to have had a cable.

Not quite sure what else there is to say? ;-)

I suppose it is effectively equivalent to AirPlay.

*SoundCast is a free opensource app, although I understand there is a more featured commercial equivalent called airfoil https://goo.gl/J8J8ON

I am not sure how apple plays with chrome cast, but as far as I can see all formats have official and non official software that allows many apps to throw their audio to the CC opening up new convenient streaming options

Google Cast, or Chromecast Built In as they're now calling it officially supports Android, iOS and the Chrome browser (on Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS)

There are 3rd party apps that extend functionality like Soundcast that thewinelake mentioned, although that's no longer developed, but there are plenty of other free alternatives like mkchromecast for example, or the commercial Airfoil, which now supports CCA, plus countless other apps on Android and presumably iOS, but it's not the best way to use them IMO.

All these third party apps just turn Chromecasts into AirPlay clones of sorts, in that you're then using a secondary device as a server, rather than just as a remote.

As we are talking Raumfeld, I noticed last night that the connector can be both the renderer or the streamer if I use BubbleUPNP. In other words even though I have it connected to my main system for spotify/tune in etc and it can pick up files from my computer if required, I can access music on a usb plugged into the unit and send that music to my Monitor Audio A100 in another room over DNLA. I haven't actually done this yet as it was late, but I was able to configure it on the app so it should be work.

This is excellent for me as the Raumfeld is set up so at the click of a switch I have access to my flac rips on both systems without having to turn on my computer and open up a media player

Yes, I agree that I'd only cast to the Raumfeld if doing something unusual that it couldn't stream itself. So for things like DLNA/SMB streaming, Spotify, Tidal, inTune, etc, I'd do it just the way I currently do. It's only "unusual" apps, like the web or iPlayer where casting makes sense.
