Anyone using Marantz AV recievers?

hey

I'm inquiring for a friend - he wishes to upgrade his AV setup in a short while, and I'm a great fan of the Marantz sound. Seing that, weirdly, for WHF Marantz recievers seem non-existent, I'm asking if any of you are using them, and wether you compared them to the much favoured Sony/Yamaha/Denon/Pioneer counterparts. How does, say, a Marantz SR 6008 sound compared to a Sony STR-DN1050?

The partnering speakers would probably be the Dali 5 5.1 or the Q Acoustics 7000i (but most likely the Dalis, since they sound great and will be easyer to get Atmos'ed). Speaking of which, should he aim for an Atmos reciever, or is a 5.1 setup enough? Marantz SR 7009 is just around the corner and it will support Atmos.

Thanks

oh, his room is about 40-50 sq meters (although the TV area is a bit smaller), and he also uses this setup for watching BluRay concerts and listening to music (Madonna, Michael Jackson kind of stuff)

I have a Marantz SR7007 and I absolutely adore it. It happily bests my old PM7200. Im not sure how much help I can be as I have not heard the Dali or the Sony.

If you like the Marantz sound, I would guess you should look at the Marantz, Denon and Yamaha. They all seem to be on the warmer side. I'm not keen on Pioneer but only because they didn't go well with my speakers. Pioneers have "a more forward presentation" (I got told off last time I said bright ;) ) so I would assume being Marantz leaning you too will not be a fan. Listent to whatever you can though, you may love them.

+1 for the SA7007. Now partnered with Dali IKon 6 MK2(bi-amped) and Vokal 2 in 5 channel. To my ears, equally satisfying with music and movies from Celebration Day on Blu Ray to Beethoven on SACD. I've sold my sub. Previous Pioneer and B&W was 7.1 - I don't miss it.
