Another iTunes/Max/24bit question

I've been using Max for a few years now to convert FLAC into iTunes, and everything works fine.

However, am I right in thinking that when I stream them to my DAC* (which is in another room and linked to my main hifi), via an Airport Express, they are down converted to ordinary 16bit files?

If so, what's the best way to stream 24bit files to my DAC.
