Sure it's performance isn't identical - it's got a 5 inch bigger
panel so the real world results are inevitably different- but that's
still no reason to be dismissive of his request, since IMO the 47PFL9664 and 42PFL9664's performance are very similar. This isn't surprising
seeing that the actual technologies employed by both screens are virtually dentical Both have Perfect Pixel HD engine, both have the same
ambilight technology and the same refresh rate.

Audioholic,

I don't think Andrew was being dismissive, I'd say honest. It's not just a case of the screen being 5 inches bigger. For example, on some TV's the LCD panels used could have been sourced from a different supplier for each size. Also although the technologies appear to be the same, for example the power supply circuits for the bigger screen could be completely different, which can make a big difference to the picture. As is often proven by reviews, models in the same range don't necessarily perform identically.

And it's not fair on anyone asking for advice about equipment, if that advice (especially by reviewers in a well respected magazine) isn't based on having used or tested the equipment concerned.

Andrew Everard:As we have said many times, the performance of one model in a range shouldn't be taken as a given for a model of same range but different size.

Read the reviews and you will see what Andrew means. The two exceptions to this rule (and to Pioneer's brilliant technology) is the PDP-LX5090 and PDP-LX6090.

You make good points Rob about possible changes in supplier between different models. I didn't mean to have an aggressive tone in my previous post, I just think that the OP's request wasn't completely nonsensical, and might give an indication to the larger screen's performance, although it's obviously always best to judge a product for oneself!

Kind regards
