Andrew, please can you recommend a good 5.1 SACD which has Bach's Where Sheep May Safely Graze on it. Thanks

I'd probably go for this one

Thanks very much, I'll order it today and probably get to hear it next year, Royal Mail willing!

JoelSim:I'd go for a Barbara Bach DVD personally.

Especially the one where she walks in executive slow motion carrying a copy of Vogue...

I can definitely concur that Chandos CDs are state-of-the-art in terms of recording quality (no surprise there) - however, as far as I'm aware all their SACDs are recorded in 5.0.

And a good thing too IMO...but is there any chance Naxos could be tempted to look at SACD again for the odd release...???

Slight nit-picking, but it's the best recording I could find.

I think he might be the island, not the label, rs...

No, Andrew, I do in fact work for them, despite the picture

- and we also distribute Chandos, as it happens. Picky, moi?

rs - agreed, but unfortunately you could probably count the number of copies we sold without taking your shoes and socks off, so I suspect not...

While on the subject of recommended recordings, what happened to the Gramophone's list (which used to be on its website)?

Will it return in updated form or has it been scrapped?

Always found it invaluable.

We'd chatted on here ages ago, so I knew about his "previous" guv.

Ummm, well, you know, if you have any spare copies lying around you'd be willing to sell off to a budding buyer...*cough* *harumph* *louder cough*...! Review copies are of course welcome too...

Thanks again, arrived today and I only ordered it yesterday. Sounds great.

The SACD sounds good in surround, it's being encoded to LPCM by the Oppo and decoded to analogue by my AVR600, but as a hybrid SACD, I've already ripped the CD stereo side to WMA Lossless using dBPowerAmp. As I'm writing I'm listening to that via my modded DacMagic in stereo, I can't help thinking that the Burson Opamps in the DacMagic are producing a better result (less clinical, more natural sound), even though the source is 16-bit/44.1 kHz as opposed to the 24-bit/96 kHz SACD. That's certainly not been the case with other mainsteam SACD's in my collection, perhaps it's that classical sounds better this way?

I should be getting my Yamaha DSP-Z7 in exchange (plus quite a bit dosh back as well) for my buggy AVR600 by the weekend, it'll be interesting to hear how that handles the SACD as that will be able to decode a DSD signal from the Oppo.

Ah, right. Might be sensible to identify yourself as such in your signature, as per House Rules item 9, then

rs - I have actually found a couple of titles which you're welcome to have, but I don't want to annoy the mods by putting links in, so if you can think of a way to contact me, they're yours!

Oo thanks very kindly!! Can someone do the honours and forward the relevant email addresses around the place please?

Really appreciate this - it'll be good to hear some of this!
