Andrew - Pls help me configure my subwoofer. All other views also welcome!

I have a JAMO subwoofer (part of the A102) and I'm confused about how to configure the following:

Level - Min to max

Cut-Off - 40Hz to 150Hz

Phase - 0 - 180 (degrees?)

What do all these mean? is there a default setting? The guide is of zero help.

I have tried searching for tips on Google, but that has only confused me further.

Level just short of max

Cut-off 150Hz

Phase initially to 0, but try the 180 setting and see whether you prefer the bass at that setting

No probs - use those settings, and let the filtering in the receiver do all the rest of the work.

You would set the level to just short of max?

Yup - unles you run into any hum issues, in which case you can back off the level and let the receiver boost the signal a bit in auto set-up to compensate.

The only reason I mentioned this was that I'd followed the advice given in What Hifi guides within the readers questions section which started by saying that the main mistake most people make when setting up their subwoofer was turning up the level too high?

Yes, but then you forget that the receiver will actually be setting the level of bass output, so the setting on the sub's gain control isn't having too much effect. Setting it to maximum lets the receiver's bass level control do its stuff.
