bemaniac:This seems subjective but it's nice to get the general idea about unveiling otherwise faded sections of tracks. Interesting reading.

I think matthew put it very well. Quiet background, longer periods of detail/music = longer decay.

...more air?

JoelSim:

You're very welcome to a glass of wine and a listen if you are in London Chebby.

I've got a small olive tree in the back garden, so I shall offer one of the branches.

Yes like erm, erm, like it was a bigger room with a bigger space behind the speakers.

Yes only a 42. Was thinking of getting an 80 but that's on hold until I've paid for the moat to be cleaned.

I shall rephrase it then. Volume has gone up a few notches and I am foot-tapping. Comprendez?

Just noticed the very smooth volume control. Change it and it lights up around the circumference. If it were a man it would be James Bond. I'm liking it a lot.

JoelSim:...and I am foot-tapping.

Sounds like a HFN reviewer

Doesn't it make you want to grab the wife and dance? Or play air guitar, or sing, or jump on the table and join the band on 'stage'?

Oscillating one's sandal is hardly a testament to much emotion! Most of us can raise that sort of enthusiasm for a portable radio when a favourite comes on.

Joel,

You seem to chop and change.

Do you have any reference point to assess HiFi? For example, real instruments.

As Chebby has pointed out, your write-up is a little confused.

Why confused? For god's sake don't stick up for Chebby.

Sounds more like E.T.

"Ouch..."

Yes you're right. Turn up the volume and my finger lights up.

I think your avatar says it all fella.

Remind me not to go near a church with a sharp spire in lightning.

chebby:

And I want to know how you can so precisely quantify 'realism' to an accuracy of 5 percent.

I think the 5% quantification was just to indicate whether it was a small improvement or whether it was like night and day. Whilst I doubt Joel has come up with any ISO approved rating system that precisely measures and quantifies the improvement in realism, personally I have no issues with people using numbers like that to give us a better idea how much improvement they thought a component brought. Otherwise how would we be able to tell what the writer meant by a "slight, marginal, small or modest" improvement?

Joel,

Congratulations on your new bargain purchase I hope it gives you many hours of pleasure.

Personally I dont care how you describe it emotions and feelings are hard to quantify.

You are obviously happy with your purchase and that is all that matters.

True Blue:I hope it gives you many hours of pleasure.

Yes sorry about all that Joel.

I wish you hours of pleasure from your new amp too.

I've held back but I can't anymore! Now I know Joel is capable of fighting his own corner but this is for others that maybe can't. Chebby, mainly and one other, digging at Joel's attempt at reviewing his new purchase is both, childish and not helpful and frankly stinks if jealousy - very sad. For others reading this post, they might not bother to post about their new purchases in fear of being lambasted for not describing a tonal change well enough.

No it would only be Joel.

The other people you talk of have never called me deaf or stupid in the past.

One tip from a fellow Tucana II user, Joel, is that IMO it doesn't sound its best cold. Get everything up to speed with a few tracks while you're pottering around and then sit down for a lovely listen.

Well said, Gerrardasnails.

I too have held off from posting in this ridiculous spat of a thread, but I'm with Joel on this one. Blimey. Well, it had to happen one day I suppose.

Seriously, Chebby and one or two others seem to revel in being parsimonious and pedantic. It grates, and reduces Joel's enthusiasm for his new amp, and the discussion thereof, to playground prattle.

I hope everyone keeps posting their thoughts - i personally love reading about new amps and how they compare to previous ones.

We all have different tastes and there are loads of debates which there is no harm in having generally.

I have moved to leaving my amp and cd on permanently now which keeps them warmed and ready and yes it really helps them perform better. It is noticeable really.

Before everyone gets concerned about the environment i have managed to save £15 per month on my electric bill by turning everything else off that usually gets left on standby - wow do you know much you spend leaving all the consoles on and other items with separate power packs - now these are the real culprits and if you leave them plugged in even without the xbox or ps3 actually on it really adds up.

Thanks Clare. I agree, it was really singing after a few hours last night. Had to drag myself off to bed at about 1am.

Don't worry, it doesn't dampen my enthusiasm.
