Amplifier position

Does anyone know whether it is OK to position my amp vertically (in a pro audio rack)? I know that some PA amps are designed for vertical (upright) positioning, but what about hifi amps? Can I damage them like that? if not, will SQ be affected? Amp in question is Cambridge Audio 640a (V2).

Thanks in advance

Two thoughts really:

Cooling - not sure if the 640a runs especially hot but if you up end it the natural convection cooling process will be slightly compromised. Assuming the 640a has thermal protection shutdown, you shouldn't be able to damage the amp (it will just turn off till it cools down).

Stress - I might be a little concerned with the heavier components such as the transformer being stressed at points that they probably weren't designed for if you place it on one end.

I wouldn't have thought SQ woud be compromised per se though in some kit, the feet are designed to sink vibration away from the unit and you'd obviously be circumventing them.
