hello,

i;m looking for integrated amp match my new Proac's Response D18. I auditioned many integrated among them Creek Destiny and Nait XS. Which of them could be a good match for these speakers. Any experience on the specific combo?

Hi jd

Between these two i would choose the Naim Nait XS. If you are prepared to stretch your budget and are also prepared to look at pre/powers than please also consider Naim's excellent 152XS/155XS combination. However back to an integrated design (at a price though) an amplifier to also bear in mind is ATC's superb SIA2-150 MK2.

Btw, which of the two amplifiers have you preferred so far and what other amplifiers have you auditioned?

Thanks

thanks Rick for your replay.

i've auditioned Pimare I30, Prima Luna Prolongue 2, Nait 5i, Unico Secondo, YBA but unfortunately not with the D18. Creek and NaitXS catch my attention for their musical attributes but its difficult to decide wich is suitable for the Proac's.

As far as pre/power's concerned i;m not interested because the budget is far beyond the integrated.

I know that Rick does not fancy the Krell 400Xi ... (I do) ... so if you can, have a listen and decide for yourself ... 2nd hand/nearly new do often appear on ebay for a very good price

Hi jd

Thanks for your reply.

Fair enough. I would still recommend the Nait XS. If you wish to and when your budget allows a power supply (such as the Flatcap XS) and a power amplifier can be used with the XS.

All the best

If they appear on ebay regularly at a good price there's probably a reason, I'll leave you to decide what that is..

all the latest items (including Naim) regulary appear on ebay in nearly new condition for pretty cheap compared to the RRP... so you tell me why?

I work on the perhaps mistaken assumption that if kit is really very good that people keep hold of it and that you don't see it in great numbers on ebay etc'.

That's not to say that anything that is available in quantity second hand is somehow inferior, there's volume and acquired tastes to take into account etc'

Why are latest items like Naim available pretty cheap - perhaps they're overpriced to begin with?

I agree 100% ... I hardly see any Pioneer Sa-9800 amps for sale on ebay

jokes aside, amps like the krell and naim need careful partenering, thats why I said he should listen first ... (and obviously research)

perhaps many people buy without researching to see if the item will blend in with the existing components, then are disapointed?

Yup, that's about it! Either that or they got some from poor advice from a dealer keen to make a sale - either way buyer beware!

Any experience on the specific combo? The Nait XS is a good starting point. The Cyrus 8xp/8xpd/8xpd QX are also highly recommended with ProAc - most of our customers who have bought ProAc have bought them to match up with either Naim or Cyrus. Worthy of a demo.

I had my Proac D28's on a cyrus pre/power mono combo and loved the clarity. And they dont need much power to be played loud without breaking up not saying you crank it just to say, proac's dont need alot of power.

hi,

first thank you for your reply.

i found Creek's sound close to Proac although Nait XS was very detailed and musical, that's why i hanen't decide yet.

any expirience with the Creek Destiny driving Proac?

hi jtein,

i auditioned Primare I30 with a pair of Audio Physic and i found the result little bit bright but Primare drove them very well.

Sorry, I've not heard a Creek since the good old 4240, which goes back about 15 years! The Creeks were always good amps, so I can't see it having a problem.

jtein:Jazzdevil, you didn't like what you heard from Primare I30?

Errrr.... I was a bit confused too, because this user has almost my user name, except mine has an extra "L" - Jazzdevill. Hehehe!

And he is talking about almost the same kit as I!

As for the I30, I absolutely love it, don't think I'll be changing it in many, many years. In fact, I am about to give it the exact same speakers as this other user - Jazzdevil - ProAc D18. I've been looking at a 8 month old D18, mint. Can't wait!

Would the Leema Pulse III be a really good partner with the ProAc Response D18 for most genres except classical?

That or the Musical Fidelity M3i / Harman Kardon HK990.

The Caspian M2 if you like it powerful and dynamic. I have read the D18s are a little bass light, I've found them to be anything but in my system.
