Hello,

Looking for advice - my Trio amp from 1988 has given up the ghost!

So I need a new one £200 to £300

Need a digital audio connection for the TV

Also need old fashioned cable connections for a CD player and a turntable.

Not bothered about make so long as it is reliable

Thanks in advance

Welcome...

Would like some additional info please. What CD player and speakers do you have? When you say "old fashioned cable connections", do you mean the old PIN-type connections or standard interconnects?

Cheers, pp.

Hello PP

The CD player is a Cambridge Audio CD6

The Turntable is a (new) Sony PS-LX300USB

The Speakers are Eltax Silverstone 300

The connections are pin from the CD and Turntable.

The connection from the speakers to the present amp is locked in bare wire

Okay. For your budget I'd be looking at Marantz 7001, Rotel RA-05 (or 04 if you don't need a remote) or Arcam DIVA A65 Plus. All these have cracking built-in phono stages.

You'll need to go to Maplins or any good high street electrical retailer (or perhaps Richer Sounds may help), because the amps I've mentioned are standard RCA phono connections.

Hope this helps, pp

Two of these are not available new.

None of them have a digital input for the OP's television. (As requested.)

Which makes within the OPs budget has digital connections and a phono stage? I was thinking more in the line of standard interconnects to connect the TV etc.

See my previous post. HK seems to cover all the bases and is within the OP's budget at a number of outlets.

The OP asked for digital input for the television

Hello Chebby,

Just looking at your suggestion.

It is an ugly beast but certainly seems to cover all the connection requirements.

(with added DAB which is a real bonus.)

Just in budget too

I think the HK will suit your audio requirements too - I was in the Superfi branch when I was down in Leeds the other weekend and the guy there reckoned the 3490 was in line with what you're asking for. Two optical inputs to the rear as well, so you can connect something else apart from your TV. 120wpc, decent current supply and a contemporary styling.

Plus, Superfi are one of the better dealers in that they will honour the terms of the Distance Selling Regulations which not all do - in essence, you can try the goods at home and as long as you've taken good care of them, you can return for a refund within 7 days (minus return shipping costs).

Hello Record Spot,

Thank you for your comment.

It does look like the HK fulfils what I need even though 120wpc is a little excessive.

No matter; I can make the house shake

Cheers
