I've got an LCD TV and a DVD player. At the moment all the sound when I'm watching comes from the built-in speakers on my TV. However, I also own some fairly decent hi fi speakers, so I'd like to channel the sound from TV and DVD into them. Can I just use a normal hi fi separates amp and use standard red/white RCA leads to connect it to TV and DVD, or do I need something special?

Incidentally, I don't have a budget, as such, but would probably aim to buy something s/h off ebay. If any old hi fi amp will do, then I probably won't spend much...

Thanks for your advice.

Yes that would be fine. Your DVD player should have conventional stereo phonos out. You should choose the stereo mix from the DVD's audio set up.
