Hi all,

I am keen to get my hands on some ae1mk3se speakers.I read from whf reviews that I quote:"You'll also need a pair of solid stands and a powerful, yet articulate amplifier (think three grand upwards)."Having the cyrus pre xpd and xpower does that mean it s a mismatch and wasting my money on such good little speakers and should change to a more powerfull amp to get themsinging, or will the x power suffice for now? Also what about cables?I currently got the chord carnival silver screen..

thanks john

You dont need "something over three grand" to enjoy these wonderful speakers. We've matched them with the Primare I30 before and its a wonderful combination - impressively smooth and neutral with an open, wide soundstage. Providing you put them on good filled stands, with good quality speaker cable like Chord Epic, such a combination is quite stunning. As suggested though, an audition is worth it if possible to try some different possible combinations.

I just sold my Cyrus Pre XPD and X Power because to agressive treble with my AE1 MK3 but not the "se".

So a trial is a must before buying. Have changed to Naim XS Pre/Power and totally different sound. Cryus more open and offering many more details combined with a very nice soundstage.

Naim more round sound - more relaxing but less details and soundstage.

AE are using for their speaker tests i.e. Naim applification but sure there are other amps also good, just would not take Cyrus in this case.
